Tens of thousands of people died as a result of a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6. The earthquake occurred 23 kilometers east of Nurdagi, Turkey, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It is one of the most powerful earthquakes to strike Turkey in over 100 years.
